I grew up in the shadow of the lighthouse in Harbour Town. A short boat ride or about 3 blocks away from my childhood home in Sea Pines. While growing up, the Calibogue Sound was in my backyard, literally my backyard. In the summers, I worked the ice cream window under the famous candy stripped lighthouse. After daytime work, I would wash boats in the Harbour Town Yacht Basin and sometimes mate for the captains of several different boats. Dolphin Nature Boats, Gulf Stream Fishing Charters, and various types of water sport businesses.
While in Harbour Town, I got hooked up with a captain out of New Jersey and worked full time as Mate. We went fishing and shrimped all over the low country together, taking out clients and bringing our catch to restaurants for dinner. We went to work in West Palm Beach, FL and I was flown over to Nassau, Bahamas every two weeks for three months straight! I would help deliver, care for, and live aboard a fleet of boats owned by the likes of, Georgia Pacific, Club Car Golf Carts, and Atlanta Textiles. Eventually, work ended with me starting my first semester at the College of Charleston, only two hours from Hilton Head. In my summers, I managed a kids sailing camp and become a Dolphin Watch guide at South Beach Marina. I have been hooked ever since...
After a few years running for traditional cookie cutter tour companies and started IslandAce Adventure Tours with one thing in mind. Provide visitors with more custom experiences. I wouldn't trade this job for anything in the World. I get to go into my backyard, exactly where I grew up, to share the wonders of the "Lowcountry" with locals and visitors alike.
